Pre-Vocational Medicaid Waiver

What is Pre-Vocational Medicaid Waiver?

Friendship Industries receives special funding from Virginia’s Medicaid Waiver Program for a small number of adults who are mentally ill or physically disabled.

This Program teaches “Pre-vocational” skills that each person needs before job training.

The Program is offered to a select group of Clients, based on need and includes an assessment with the Rehabilitative Services Instructor to determine what individual training, support, or special supervision would be beneficial.

The primary focus of Pre-Vocational Medicaid Waiver is to prepare Clients for paid employment with skills that make them attractive employment Trainees.

Specific skills include cultivating attention span, refining or maintaining motor skills, developing appropriate workplace behaviors, and other basic work functions.

The Client’s ability to apply those developing work skills in a practical workplace setting are assessed with feedback gathered from:

•Supervisors
•Aides
•Other Staff and
•through formal Level of Functioning Assessments or LOFs

Daily intensive training in specific areas of focus is conducted, progress is tracked daily, and formal reports are filed monthly.

Each person’s program progress is discussed with them daily, formally assessed and revised quarterly, and new customized programs are developed annually.
