In 2009, our Board members and student volunteers from EMU and JMU donated more than 100 hours per month to our organization.  A special "Thank You" goes to the many volunteers who helped make this year a success!

FRIENDSHIP's VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 

Volunteering at Friendship? You will assist clients with disabilities or Staff in a variety of activities including but not limited to:  work (learn a new job, ensure quality of the product etc.), leading discussion on selected topics, academics, using computers, leading group activities, watching and discussing safety and work-related videos, data entry of confidential or proprietary information, and special projects in marketing, public relations or fundraising.

Skills and Talents Needed? Volunteer Program Aides demonstrate the ability to communicate and help others, follow instructions and model appropriate behavior and speech for clients, ability to stay on task to meet established project or activity deadlines, maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.

 

 

 

COLLEGE INTERNSHIP
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES 
IN HARRISONBURG

FRIENDSHIP INDUSTRIES has opportunities for COLLEGE-level interns to assist in public relations and events, development, accounting and other office positions, social sciences, sales and marketing of our services to prospective customers and rehabilitative clients. Openings are on a first-come, first-served basis and available year round.

 

 TASKS
Tasks and projects will be assigned on the basis of Friendship's requirements at the time and the intern's area of interest or field of study.

PROCESS
  1)  Meet with Human Resources to learn about Friendship, take a tour, 
       read and sign the Volunteer Confidentiality Form
  2)  Participate in Volunteer Orientation
  3)  Identify Friendship or classroom-related need for a project with assigned Staff member
  4)  Decide on appropriate course of action for the project
  5)  Schedule regular visits or meetings during the project for follow-up
  6)  Plan an end date for the project or an interim-end date if an on-going project

SKILLS NEEDED
  1)  Communicate with others in person, by telephone, in writing or by email
  2)  Fluent in using the internet for research
  3)  Present information provided about Friendship in a positive and accurate manner
  4)  Able to tell the Friendship Story as a Friendship Ambassador

NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK
Persons are needed from two to eight hours per week, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours. More hours per week could be discussed.
